About This Experience
现亭内有抚台李公平倭碑，高3米，宽1米，立于明嘉靖三十九年，马坤撰。记录了嘉靖三十八年李遂率领军队，在泰州，海安，如皋一带平定倭寇，平息江北倭患的历史，现为江苏省省级文物保护单位。明朝倭寇经常来犯江浙一带，罪行累累，嘉靖年间年年都来，南通无岁不受其害。最厉害的是嘉靖三十一年前后的三四年间，沿海被杀害的老百姓有数十万之众。抚台李公即巡抚都御史李遂，嘉靖进士，曾任右 都御史，擢升南京参赞尚书。他“纪律精明，善将兵，”深得军民爱戴。嘉靖三十六年开始指挥江北抗倭斗争。嘉靖三十八年，倭寇万余人乘战舰百艘欲犯扬州，李
